Two boys drown in Erinjippuzha River, one missing

KASARAGOD: Two children who entered the Erinjippuzha River to take a bath drowned to death on Saturday. The two children are relatives while the fire force and locals are continuing the search for the missing third child.

The incident took place today at 2.30 pm in Kasaragod Erinjippuzha. The victims have been identified as Riyas, son of Eranjippuzha Siddique, and Yaseen (13), son of Ashraf. The search is on for a child named Samad (13), the son of Majeed, who got dragged into the depths in the high current. All three are cousins.

Riyas was visiting his family's house for a feast. The three children decided to take a dip in the river during the noon hours on Saturday. It is reported that a woman was also along with them in the river. Riyas while bathing struggled to cope with the high current and started panicking. The other two tried to help Riyas but also got caught in the trap laid by the river. The woman witnessing the harrowing scene cried for help alerting locals nearby. Riyas and Yaseen were taken out and rushed to hospital, but their life could not be saved. It is reported that Yaseen and Samad were expert swimmers. The panchayat president meanwhile told the media about the history of accidents in the river.

In Kannur too, two people drowned in a similar incident. Two people drowned in the Kiliyanthara River in Kannur Iritty. Albin (nine) and Vincent (42), natives of Kannur, died in the incident.
