Palakkad MLA and Youth Congress state president Rahul Mamkootathil said the accused in the Periya double murder case should have been awarded death penalty. The MLA penned that the sentence would have discouraged any CPM member from taking up the murder knife tomorrow.
His FB post said
‘It is the rarest of rare to chop a youth 47 times and killing another youth by cutting off his skull. Spending his entire life in prison may be justice in another way, but death penalty should have been awarded. That sentence would have discouraged any CPM member from taking up the murder knife tomorrow. The fight for such a model in a case where there is no distinction between the murderers and the rulers will continue.’
The court clarifying the role of CPM in the Periya double murder case, sentenced ten accused to double life imprisonment.
