MALAPPURAM: A 35-year-old-youth was killed in a wild elephant attack in Malappuram last night. He has been identified as Mani (35) of Poochappara Colony in Karulai, Malappuram. Mani belongs to the Cholanaikkan community.

Though Mani seriously injured was taken to the hospital, his life could not be saved and he died early this morning. Mani was attacked by the elephant at around 7 pm last night in the Karulai forest area. One can reach the colony only after travelling through the inner forest. The forest department staff reached the inner forest after informed of the attack and took Mani to the hospital. The body was later shifted to Nilambur District Hospital.

Amar Elahi (22), son of Ibrahim, was killed in a wild elephant attack in Thodupuzha on December 30. Amar was killed when he and his friend Mansoor (41) went to untie his cow that was grazing 300 meters away from their house. One of the two elephants that came from Inchakadu trampled Amar to death and the other one chased his friend Mansoor, but he managed to escape. He held his breath until the elephant moved away from the area. He had fractured his right leg.

The locals rushed to the spot but could not save Amar. Forest guards and police arrived and shifted the body to the hospital morgue.
