ALAPPUZHA: A housewife was found hanging at her house a week after being attacked in broad daylight by an unidentified assailant. The deceased is Thankamma (55), the wife of Mararikkulam native Johnkutty.
Her son, John Paul (Rajeev), a driver, had left early in the morning for his job in a fish delivery vehicle. Her husband, Johnkutty, a fisherman, found her hanging from a pipe in the work area’s roof using a shawl at around 9 AM yesterday. Hearing his cries for help, neighbours rushed in and took her to the nearest government hospital, but she was declared dead on arrival.
On January 1, Thankamma was attacked by an unidentified assailant when she was alone at home. Thankamma was assaulted and tied to a window after being rendered unconscious. The assailant entered the house through the kitchen door while she was preparing to wash rice. He grabbed her by the neck, assaulted her, stuffed cloth into her mouth, and tied her to the window by her neck. The perpetrator then ransacked the wardrobe, scattering clothes.
Her son returned home at 1:45 PM to find the front door locked from the outside. Entering through the kitchen, he discovered his mother unconscious. He untied her and revived her. Initially suspected to be a robbery attempt, the investigation ruled this out as no valuables were missing. As part of the investigation, the police had summoned Thankamma to the station yesterday.
