Native of Kanyakumari, current LPSC Director; V Narayanan to be appointed as ISRO Chairman

NEW DELHI: Dr V Narayanan will be appointed as the new chairman of ISRO. He is a native of Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu. Dr V Narayanan is currently the Director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC). He responded by thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government.

The appointment is due to the completion of the term of the current chairman S. Somnath, a Malayali. V Narayanan will take over the charge from the S Somnath as ISRO chief on January 14. Dr V Narayanan has held various key positions within the Indian space organisation and has a career spanning nearly four decades. His expertise lies in rocket and spacecraft propulsion.

Dr Narayanan is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. He has a PhD in Aerospace Engineering. He has won silver medal with first rank in M.Tech from IIT Kharagpur and gold medal from Astronautical Society of India (ASI). He has received ASI Award for Rocket and Related Technologies, Team Award from High Energy Materials Society of India, ISRO's Outstanding Achievement and Performance Excellence Awards and Team Excellence Awards. He has also received an honorary degree of Doctorate of Science (Honoris Causa) from Sathyabama University, Chennai. He has received the Distinguished Alumni Award-2018 of IIT, Kharagpur, National Design Award-2019 by National Design and Research Forum of Engineers (India) and National Aeronautical Prize-2019 by Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI).
