THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ISRO's 100th launch, the NVS-02 navigation satellite, has suffered a technical glitch. The fault is in the valves that operate the thrusters that help raise the satellite's orbit. There is no problem with the other systems of the satellite. ISRO is making intensive efforts to resolve the fault.
The satellite's solar panels were successfully deployed after the launch. Communication with the ground station was also established. The satellite is now orbiting the Earth in an elliptical orbit of nearly 170 kilometres to the nearest point around Earth and nearly 36,577 kilometres at the farthest point from Earth.
NVS-02, which is part of the NavIC navigation system, was launched on January 29 on a GSLV-F15 rocket. This was the 17th mission of GSLV. The 2,250 kg NVS-02 satellite carries navigation transponders in the L1, L5, S and C bands.
