PALAKKAD: Fearing foreclosure of property, a housewife tried to commit suicide by setting herself on fire. Jaya (48), a native of Kizhayur, tried to commit suicide. The incident took place this afternoon at Palakkad Pattambi. Officials from the Co-operative Urban Bank in Shornur had reached Jaya's house for foreclosure proceedings. This is why she tried to commit suicide by pouring kerosene on herself. Jaya was taken to Thrissur Medical College Hospital with severe burns. She had 80 percent burns.
Pattambi police and Tehsildar reached the spot and suspended the foreclosure proceedings following the incident. Jaya and her family had taken a loan of two lakh rupees from the bank in 2015 but the repayment was delayed. With this, the bank authorities proceeded with the foreclosure process. The explanation of the bank officials is that proper warning was given and they came for foreclosure process by following the procedures.
A housewife from Nedumkandam had tried to commit suicide by setting herself on fire during the foreclosure process of a private bank. Sheeba Dileep (49), a native of Asharikandom, died while undergoing treatment at Kottayam Medical College. She set herself on fire using petrol. The incident happened around 2.30 pm yesterday. Bank employees had come to Sheeba's house for the foreclosure in the presence of the police following a court verdict. With this, Sheeba poured petrol on her body and set herself on fire. Sheeba had 80 percent burns. Grade SI Benoy Abraham (52) and female civil police officer T Ambili (35) were also burnt while trying to save Sheeba. They are also being treated in the hospital.
