KOCHI: The Kerala High Court had yesterday granted bail to businessman Boby Chemmanur in the sexual abuse case filed against him by actress Honey Rose. Many including members of the Men's Association and women, waited outside the jail to receive him. However, what happened later was dramatic.

Boby Chemmanur, who wanted to get out of the jail somehow, hired a lawyer by spending lakhs and later took the stand of not getting out of the jail. His response was that there are a few people in jail who are not able to pay the bail amount and that he stayed back to express solidarity for them.

There were criticisms that Boby Chemmanur's play was a publicity stunt. If he was released yesterday, the news related to this would have ended there. However, after setting a new precedent, the news of Boby Chemmanur was in the mainstream media and social media. Therefore, it is alleged that the aim of Boby Chemmanur, a businessman, was a publicity.

Meantime, Justice P V Kunhikrishnan took suo motu action in the matter. Realizing that the play would not be successful and that he would be back in jail, the defence lawyers reached the Kakkanad jail, completed the proceedings in ten minutes and released Bobby. He said a few words to the media and left the place. The court made it clear that if the play continues, his bail would be cancelled.
