THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The final verdict in the infamous Parassala Sharon murder case will be pronounced on Monday. The verdict was expected on Saturday but the court later changed plans and adjourned it to Monday.
The court chamber witnessed a war of words between the prosecution and defense on Saturday. The prosecution termed Greeshma’s conduct akin to a devil and explained in detail the pain Sharon went through which was in the testimony of the doctors. The prosecution called Sharon's murder a rare case and pleaded with the court to give capital punishment to the accused.
“She misused the trust Sharon had in this relationship and stomped on it. The murder was carried out with precision planning and only someone with such a brutal mind could execute it on a person who loved her back. This was not an accident and this educated girl even tried to mislead the case. She killed Sharon’s dreams and even carries no remorse. The accused deserves no mercy." said the prosecution.
When it was the turn for Greeshma to respond, she opted for a letter instead. In the letter, Greeshma said she was just 24 and wanted to pursue higher studies. She also pleaded with the court to reduce her sentence.
On Friday, the court found Greeshma and her uncle Nirmalakumaran Nair guilty in the murder case.
The case: Sharon Raj (23), Greeshma’s beau, reached her house in Parassala after she summoned him. She forced him to take down an Ayurvedic potion which she had shrewdly mixed with herbicide. Soon after drinking it, Sharon vomited and fell ill. Sharon died while undergoing treatment at a hospital. Greeshma planned the murder to get out of the relationship and go ahead with another marriage with a soldier. The police found that Greeshma's mother and uncle connived in her efforts. It was Nirmalakumaran Nair, who bought the herbicide for Greeshma.
