CPI expresses concern over private universities bill in cabinet meeting

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI has expressed concern over the private universities bill. Minister P. Prasad raised the question in the cabinet meeting of whether it is necessary to study this matter further before making a decision. Prasad raised his concern according to the instructions of the CPI leadership. Higher Education Minister R. Bindu was not present in the meeting. The bill was postponed for further discussion.

It was expected that the present cabinet meeting would consider the private universities bill in Kerala. The Higher Education Minister was in Bengaluru and could not attend the cabinet meeting. The CPM had taken a political decision to grant permission to private universities early on. There will be reservation in admission for SC/ST students. Meanwhile, the government will not have control over the fees.
