NEW DELHI: Following a surprising victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, newly elected BJP MLA Mohan Singh Bisht is preparing to rename his constituency. He announced that Mustafabad would be renamed either Shivpuri or Shiv Vihar.
Mohan Singh defeated AAP candidate Adeel Ahmad Khan by 17,578 votes to secure his win in Mustafabad. In the 2020 elections, AAP candidate Haji Yunus had won the seat.
"A census will be conducted before renaming. After that, Mustafabad will be renamed either as Shivpuri or Shiv Vihar. I had promised this before the elections, and I will fulfil it no matter what," said Mohan Singh. He dedicated his victory to the central leadership and assured development in the constituency.
Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM fielded Tahir Hussain In Mustafabad, but he managed to secure only 33,474 votes and finished in third place. Congress candidate Ali Mehdi received 11,763 votes and ended up in fourth place.
Meanwhile, the BJP returned to power in Delhi after 27 years. The party won 48 out of 70 assembly seats, a significant improvement from just 8 seats in 2020. In contrast, AAP, which had won 62 seats in 2020, was reduced to just 22 seats this time. The once-dominant Congress finished third with no seats, while CPI and CPM saw their vote percentages drop below the 'NOTA option.
