Hartal in Wayanad today to protest wildlife attacks

KALPETTA: The hartal called by the farmers relief forum and Trinamool Congress in protest against the wildlife attack is being observed in Wayanad today. The hartal which started at 6 am will be till 6 pm. No major political party has supported the hartal. The Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi said that they will not cooperate with the hartal.

Although we are with the family of the dead in the attack by a wild elephant, private bus operators’ association district secretary Ranjith Ram Muralidharan said that they will not participate in the hartal by stopping the bus. The organization' stance is that it cannot participate in the strike by stopping the bus at this time when taxes have to be paid.

Manu (46) of Ambalamoola, Vellari, Narikkolli Mezhukanmoola Unnathi on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border was killed in Wayanad yesterday. Manu was killed by a wild elephant on Monday night. During a search conducted by locals yesterday morning, his body was found on the field near Manu's family house in Kappad.

Manu went to his family home in Kappad after buying things from the shop along with his wife Chandrika. She went to their home in Narikolli. Manu was attacked by the wild elephant while walking home. He leaves behind his children Sajitha, Babina, Sangeetha, Sanisha.
