KALPETTA: A youth had a tragic end in a wild elephant attack at Meppadi in Wayanad. The dead is Balan (27) of Attamala. The youth was attacked near the Attamala Glass Bridge last night. The people came to know about it only Wednesday morning.
Attamala is a place near Mundakkai and Chooralmala areas where the landslide occurred. The locals alleged that no necessary action was taken despite informing the authorities that there was severe wild animal disturbance here after the landslide.
The locals said that there was a rampant disturbance of tiger in the area. A tiger had earlier attacked two of Balan’s cows. Police and forest department officials have reached the spot. The locals are protesting in the area.
Two lives were lost in the wild elephant attacks in Thiruvananthapuram and Wayanad the other day. Both belong to the tribal community. The dead were identified as Manu (46) of Ambalamoola, Vellari, and Narikolli Mezhukanmoola Unnati on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border in Wayanad, and Babu (54) of Madathara in Thiruvananthapuram.
Babu, who had gone to the forest last Wednesday to collect forest resources, was found trampled to death by a wild elephant yesterday. After he did not return even after six days, his relatives searched for him and found Babu's clothes near the Sasthamnada forest path in Adiparamba on Monday. His body was found decomposed near a stream yesterday morning. The body was lying in an inner forest, eight kilometers from the main road.
Manu was killed by a wild elephant on Monday night in Wayanad. During a search conducted by locals yesterday morning, the body was found near the field near Manu's family house in Kappad. After buying things from the market with his wife Chandrika, Manu went to his family house in Kappad. His wife was going to her house in Narikolli. The elephant attacked Manu when he was walking home at around 8 pm.
