AMARAVATI: Telugu actor Chiranjeevi’s remarks about wanting his son, actor Ram Charan, to have a son have sparked criticism on social media. Chiranjeevi made the controversial remarks while speaking at the pre-release event of the movie Brahma Anandam. His comments during the event have now become a topic of discussion.

"When I am at home and surrounded by granddaughters, I don’t just feel like a grandfather, but rather like a ladies' hostel warden. I always tell Charan and wish that next time, he should have a son. Only then will our legacy continue. However, his daughter is like a precious gem to him. But I fear that he might have another daughter again," Chiranjeevi said during the event.

Apart from Ram Charan, Chiranjeevi has two daughters. Both of them have two daughters each. In June 2023, Ram Charan and his wife Upasana welcomed a baby girl.

Meanwhile, Chiranjeevi's preference for a male child has drawn widespread criticism on social media. Many have pointed out that such a mindset still existing in 2025 is concerning. It is disappointing that someone like Chiranjeevi is upholding outdated gender biases. Some users remarked that an excessive obsession with having a male heir is not just disappointing but also a reflection of a societal mindset that urgently needs change. Another social media user pointed out that a celebrity of his stature should be mindful of what he says in public.
