Chalakudy bank robbery; robber believed to have crossed into Ernakulam; CCTV footage from Angamaly received

KOCHI: The investigation into the robbery case at the Federal Bank branch in Chalakudy Potta has been extended to Ernakulam district. It is believed that the thief has gone to Ernakulam. The police have started an investigation based on the CCTV footage obtained from Angamaly. The CCTV footage indicates that he has gone to Ernakulam.

The investigation has been extended to the city limits of Aluva, Angamaly and Ernakulam. The thief cannot be considered a Malayali just because he spoke Hindi and about Rs 10 lakh has been lost, Central Zone DIG Harishankar said in Kochi.

The money that was taken from the ATM was robbed. It is noteworthy that the thief did not take more money. The DIG said that it is not possible to say whether the thief got help from the employees and that such conclusions should not be drawn at the initial stage. The police are examining all possibilities. The DIG informed that a special investigation team has been formed under the leadership of the SP.

The robbery took place at the Federal Bank branch in the Little Flower Building on the old National Road in Chalakudy. The assailants, wearing helmets that covered their faces and gloves, rode on a scooter and held the bank employees at knifepoint and robbed them of the money. The incident took place at 2.11 pm today.
