THRISSUR: The police are collecting information of scooter owners to find the suspect who robbed Federal Bank of Rs 15 lakh at knifepoint in broad daylight. The thief arrived on a TVS Ntorq scooter. Therefore, the information of those who have this scooter in the district is being collected. The police believe that through this, they will be able to find out who owns the scooter in which the thief arrived on. Reports said the police have already prepared a list of scooter owners. However, it is not clear whether the thief arrived on a scooter registered in Thrissur. It is embarrassing for the police that they have not yet been able to find the person who robbed alone at noon at a busy junction with just a knife.
The thief is hinted to have escaped to Angamaly. He was not using a mobile phone. This is also affecting the investigation. The police have examined more than a hundred CCTV cameras, including those in shops and private institutions. The scooter number which is not clear in any of the CCTV footage is posing a significant obstacle to the investigation. It is believed that the suspect has got help from somebody. Therefore, the investigation has been extended to neighboring states. Fingerprint experts and a dog squad have examined, but no trace has been found.
A team of 28 members of the squad formed by the district rural SP is searching in Tamil Nadu. Four other teams are conducting searches in various places in Kerala. The district crime squad and district state special branch teams are also cooperating with the investigation.
The investigation is also focusing on the robbers recently released from prison on parole and other occasions. The investigation team has recorded the statements of the bank employees. If necessary, information will be collected from them again.
Total mystery
A mystery is suspected as the robbery that took place in front of our eyes within three minutes was reported to the police after a delay of about 20 minutes. The police said that if the information had been received as soon as the assailant escaped from the bank, the accused could have been caught quickly. The fact that only Rs 15 lakh was stolen from the counter despite Rs 47 lakh being on the table also raises suspicion. There are also reports that the thief only took old notes to avoid being caught using the serial number of the new note.
