MUMBAI: The BCCI has taken a crucial decision for the upcoming tour of England for the Indian team. The BCCI has selected pacer Jasprit Bumrah as the captain instead of Indian captain Rohit Sharma. The decision was made just days before the start of the Champions Trophy tournament. Bumrah is presently at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru due to an injury he sustained during the game.
Jasprit Bumrah has been the Indian captain in three Tests in Rohit Sharma's absence. When Rohit was absent from the first Test of the last Australian tour due to some reasons, India, led by Jasprit Bumrah, had achieved a brilliant victory. India won by 295 runs in Perth. Bumrah was the captain even when Rohit stepped aside in the last Test of the series due to poor form.
India had a chance to win the Sydney Test, but lost the match after Bumrah was injured. Bumrah has never led India in a Test in England before. It is believed that the BCCI decided not to rush Bumrah, who has not fully recovered from his injury, into the Champions Trophy, keeping in mind the Test series against England and the IPL.
