ALAPPUZHA: Kayamkulam MLA U Prathibha’s son Kaniv will be cleared of all charges in the case of illegal possession of ganja. The report mentioned the lack of evidence against Kaniv in the case. Nine people were initially accused in the case. Based on the complaint filed by Prathibha MLA the previous day, the Assistant Commissioner of Excise prepared the investigation report.
The police will soon initiate action against Kuttanad Excise Circle Inspector Jayarajan, the investigating officer in the case.
As per the details from the report, the charges framed against seven, including Kaniv, will not stand in court. There were no witnesses to Kaniv smoking cannabis. However, police recorded that Kaniv’s breath smelled of cannabis at the time of the incident. This alone would not be sufficient to file a case against the MLA’s son.
Apart from this, no matchbox or cannabis residue was found on Kaniv’s dress or wallet. The report also mentioned the lax police followed in conducting proper inspections. The Excise Commissioner will deliberate the report and move with action if necessary against the investigating officer.
MLA Prathibha, in her complaint, alleged that the officials did not follow the procedures and harassed her son.
