KOTTAYAM: The police are investigating the incident of a four-year-old boy who fell unconscious after eating chocolate from school. Although an expert examination found traces of an intoxicant in his body, the police said that it has not been confirmed whether it was from the chocolate. A clarity in this regard will be obtained only after further investigation. The parents have filed a complaint with the district police chief and the collector demanding an investigation into the incident.

A UKG student from Manarcadu has been admitted to the hospital. The incident happened last Monday. His parents said the boy was admitted to a private hospital in Vadavathoor after he did not wake up after coming home from school. He was later shifted to a private hospital in Ernakulam for expert treatment. The examination revealed the intoxicant 'benzodiazepines', the drugs used to treat anxiety and insomnia, in his body. He was discharged after his health improved.

His teacher said the boy fell asleep in class after consuming chocolate. The school was informed after traces of narcotic substance found in his body in an examination conducted in the hospital. The child’s mother then told a private channel that the school authorities had sent the cover of the chocolate the child had eaten. The authorities said the children were not given chocolate from the school. It is not clear from where the child got the chocolate. The police believe that these matters will be clarified during further investigation.
