KOCHI: CPM state secretary MV Govindan has changed his stance that those who consume alcohol should be expelled from the party. He stated that those who consume alcohol can work with the party, but party leaders and workers should refrain from drinking. Govindan made these remarks while speaking to the media in Kollam.

Govindan clarified that there is no restriction for party relatives or supporters in terms of consuming alcohol. He emphasized that this is not a sudden revelation. Govindan also mentioned that the age limit condition would be strictly enforced at the state conference. Only those who are over 75 years old will be excluded, and the party congress will decide on the matters related to those under 75 years of age.

Meanwhile, PB member Prakash Karat also responded regarding the age limit relaxation. He said that the state-level committees can decide on the matter. He pointed out that each state has set its own age limit and added that he is unaware of the 'Nava Kerala document'. He mentioned that the state committees would consider the issue.
