When the locals came to know that the excise special squad had arrested the two, they tried to attack them. The excise team rescued the two with great effort. With the flow of drug cases, the locals are also on alert. In many places, there are people’s groups to inform the police and excise to pass information. The youths are in the forefront for this.

In the backdrop of frequent incidents of teenagers brutally attacking their classmates in the state, which culminated in the murder at Thamarassery in Kozhikode, the ruling and opposition parties had decided to join hands in the fight against drug abuse. The ruling and opposition members were unanimous in their stance that drugs should be banned. The chief minister said teachers, parents and the general public should come together to take action against drug abuse. The chief minister said the younger generation is restless and that a comprehensive campaign against drug abuse will be organized in schools. Demanding a precise action plan, opposition leader V D Satheesan said the state be divided into two regions and given responsibility to IGs.
