BENGALURU: The Karnataka government has imposed a price limit on movie tickets in theatres across the state. The order states that the ticket price should not exceed Rs 200. This restriction applies to movies in all languages screened in Karnataka, including in multiplexes. The new move is a setback for film producers who have been demanding a hike in ticket prices.

During the state budget announcement, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had said that the ticket price in all movie theatres would be limited to Rs 200. A similar price limit was imposed earlier, but it was not implemented properly. There has been a sharp increase in ticket prices in the last few years. Tickets for some movies have been sold for up to Rs 600 on the release day. The government intends to make tickets affordable for all moviegoers through this move. The new law will be implemented in the state soon.
