DUBAI: India lifted the T20 World Cup last year, ending a 13-year ICC title drought. Rohit Sharma has brought another ICC title to India's shelf just months apart. To be precise, India's title victory in the ODI format came after 12 years. India, which came close to winning the ODI World Cup held at home in 2023, fell to Australia in the final.

Virat Kohli handed over the captaincy to Rohit Sharma after losing in knockout matches in ICC tournaments. Rohit Sharma's first test as captain was the Twenty20 World Cup held in Australia in 2022. After losing to England in the semi-finals, the knockout curse followed India under Rohit.

The next year, the 2023 ODI World Cup held in India was Rohit's second opportunity. India reached the final with ten consecutive wins. However, the Blue Army, described as a team that no team could beat, stumbled in the final. Cricket fans were disappointed that Rohit's captaincy did not end the title drought.

However, the title drought ended when India defeated South Africa in the Twenty20 World Cup held in the United States and the West Indies in 2024. After failing to qualify for the final of the World Test Championship in Test cricket, the demand for Rohit Sharma's retirement started to grow stronger. However, in his usual style, he silenced his doubters and critics by winning the title.
