KOZHIKODE: Vadakara police have apprehended five school students for possessing stolen motorcycles. The students, studying in Classes 9 and 10, were found with six stolen bikes. Their arrests follow an investigation triggered by a surge in motorcycle thefts in the Vadakara area.
According to police reports, the students stole the bikes from the Vadakara railway station premises by breaking the locks. They started the bikes by cutting the wires and later modified them by attaching fake number plates and scraping off the chassis numbers to avoid detection. The group was often seen riding around the Memunda and Challivayal areas on these modified bikes. In cases where a bike malfunctioned, they simply abandoned it by the roadside.
Authorities are now probing whether the group was involved in more thefts. The students reportedly carried out the crimes after sneaking out of their homes at night without informing their families. The families of the students learned about the thefts only after the arrests. The suspects were identified using CCTV footage and other investigative methods. Since all the accused are minors, they will be presented before the Juvenile Justice Board on Friday.
