KOCHI: "The raid began with the expectation of a small amount of cannabis or other drugs. In the first two rooms, there were visually impaired students. When the third room was opened, I was shocked. I saw a student putting ganja into small packets on the table," said City Narcotics Cell Assistant Commissioner K.A. Abdul Salam, who led the seven-hour lightning raid on Periyar, the boys hostel of Kalamassery Govt. Polytechnic College.

While the drug hunt was intensified in Kochi, a tip-off was received that drugs had been brought here for the Holi celebration. A team of 50 police officers entered the hostel rooms at 9 pm after obtaining all the permits. The ganja was first found in Akash's room. The ACP said that he tried to escape but was stopped.

The claim of the arrested Abhiraj that he was not at the place is wrong. There is concrete evidence against this. Many people escaped during the raid that lasted until 4 am. The students were planning to both use and sell the cannabis. Information has been received that money was collected from the buyers. It is clear who supplied the cannabis and who was behind it. The ACP said that their arrests will be made soon.

The raid was supervised by Deputy Commissioner Aswathi Jiji and Juvanapudi Mahesh on the instructions of City Police Commissioner Putta Vimaladitya. Thrikkakara Assistant Commissioner P.V. Baby and Kalamassery SHO M.B. Latheef also led the inspection.
