WASHINGTON: An Indian student returned home after the US revoked her visa for participating in pro-Palestine protests in the country. Ranjani Srinivasan, a research student at Columbia University, is on her way back to India. US accused her of taking part in pro-Hamas protests.
Ranjani expressed her willingness to leave the country using the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) CBP app, as she no longer had the opportunity to remain in the US. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem shared footage of Ranjani walking through the airport, as part of her return to India.
"Getting a visa to live and study in the US is a special privilege. Those who advocate violence and terrorism will lose the chance. You should no longer be in this country," the security secretary wrote along with the footage.
Certain events were organized on campuses in the US to express solidarity with Hamas. The administration was scrutinising foreign students who took part in the protests. Following this, the US decided to take strict action against Ranjani. Ranjani Srinivasan is a research student at the School of Architecture under Columbia University.
After graduating from the Center for Environmental Planning and Technology in Ahmedabad and completing a master's degree from Harvard University, Ranjani joined Columbia University for research.
