THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that heavy rains will continue in the state today. There will be heavy rains in the state for the next five days. However, no special alert has been issued in any of the districts. Meantime, heavy rains with thunderstorms are likely in isolated places in all 14 districts of Kerala today. The IMD has warned that people should be alert as strong winds of up to 50 kmph are also likely along with the rain. The state received widespread summer rains the other day.
Alert issued
• Immediately move inside a safe building as soon as you see the first sign of thunderstorms. Remaining in open areas increases the risk of being struck by thunderstorms.
• Keep windows and doors closed during periods of strong winds and thunderstorms. Do not stand near doors and windows. Stay inside the building and try to avoid touching walls or floors as much as possible.
• Disconnect electrical appliances. Avoid proximity to electrical appliances during thunderstorms.
• Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. It is safe to use a mobile phone.
• If the weather is cloudy, avoid playing outdoors and on terraces, including with children.
• Do not stand under trees during a thunderstorm. Do not park vehicles under trees.
• Stay inside the vehicle during a thunderstorm. Do not put your arms and legs outside. You will be safe inside the vehicle. Avoid traveling in vehicles such as bicycles, bikes, and tractors during a thunderstorm and seek shelter in a safe building until the thunderstorm ends.
