NEW DELHI: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's diplomacy. Tharoor said the policy adopted by Narendra Modi when the Russia-Ukraine war broke out was correct. Modi was able to maintain good relations between the two countries. He added that he was wrong to oppose India's position. He was speaking at the 'Raisina Dialogue' debate in Delhi.
Tharoor had criticised India's stance when Russia attacked Ukraine and called for condemnation of the aggression. I am still wiping the egg of my face because I am one person in the parliamentary debate who actually criticised the Indian position at the time back in February 2022. My criticism was based on the violation of the UN Charter, the violation of the principle of borders, and the violation of the sovereignty of a member state, Ukraine. If a country violates all these principles, we should condemn it.'
However, after three years, I realized that my stand was wrong. The policy makes it clear that we have an Indian Prime Minister who can hug the President of Ukraine and the President of Russia within a two-week period and be accepted by both. India is now in a position to make a difference for lasting peace. Very few countries can do that," Shashi Tharoor said.
