NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that there is no effort to impose Hindi in India. He added that if the NDA government wins in Tamil Nadu, medical and engineering courses will be offered in Tamil. He said that Hindi has no competition with any other Indian language and that Hindi is a friend of all Indian languages.

The home minister accused MK Stalin's DMK of spreading poison in the name of language. He said that the DMK is trying to create a controversy about language to hide their corruption.

'They run shops on language to hide their corruption. Every language is like a jewel of the country. Are they trying to say that we are against any language of the South? Those who are doing politics in the name of your language have their own agenda.

The Modi government has taken steps under the Department of Official Language to increase the use of Indian languages. I will correspond with citizens, chief ministers, ministers and MPs in their own language. The accusation that I am against southern languages is baseless. I am from Gujarat; Nirmala Sitharaman is from Tamil Nadu.

The Tamil Nadu government has not been able to translate medical and engineering study materials into Tamil. It is clear that it lacks the courage to do so. Amit Shah also said that if the NDA government comes to power in Tamil Nadu, medical and engineering courses will be conducted in Tamil.'
