NEET exams and the fraud at play

The law introducing a unified entrance examination applicable throughout the country was introduced to eliminate serious irregularities in medical admissions. Some students and parents have gone to court against the NEET exam but to no avail. These are mere attempts to subvert the NEET system by deliberately finding faults in the name of irregularities. Attempts were made to rig the entrance exam, such as leaking questions, appointing substitutes for real candidates, and finding test centres suitable for rigging.

Some are now at the forefront of demanding that admissions be made through an alternate system in deemed universities. These are people who found out that it would be nearly impossible for them to crack the NEET exams. Fraudsters are now on the move finding such students, cajoling their parents with seats in return for money.

Many parents are aware that it is impossible to get NEET admission through shrewd ways. However, the intrigue to give it a try would be hard to resist. At the end of the day, they will be sitting devastated knowing that their hard-earned money has gone into the drains through this fraud.

There are a total of 11,450 MBBS seats in 59 designated universities across the country. Admissions to all medical colleges, including these, are based on the 'NEET' score. There is only one deemed university in Kerala. Therefore, the scam is done by promising to secure seats in universities outside the state. The agents would first demand Rs two lakh rupees from parents. Despite carrying doubts about its authenticity, the parents would have no qualms about splashing Rs two lakhs for their children.

The Rs 2 lakh fee for registration in the deemed universities is paid through an agent. This amount is refundable even if the seat is not allotted. However, the agents will siphon the money through tricks and the parents would end up in disarray. As of now, cases are piling up in police stations in Kerala about medicine seat fraud. This is just one of the many scams going on in the higher education sector.

Entrance exams for higher education have now begun in the country. The irregularities in the exams are putting pressure on the students who have toiled hard all summer with high hopes of cracking the tough paper. Last year, the NEET exam was a complete mess due to the mistakes of the exam administrators. Some other exams conducted at the all-India level also went to court due to irregularities. It is high time the officials self-assess whether they’re still efficient in conducting this all-Indian examination without flubs.
