NEW DELHI: Deepa Joseph, vice president of Nimishapriya Action Council, has requested the central government to urgently intervene for the release of Malayali nurse Nimishapriya, facing death penalty in the case of killing a Yemeni citizen. She said that Nimishapriya's message cannot be ignored and that steps may be taken to execute her after Eid. Deepa Joseph clarified that in this situation, the central government should intervene for her release and only they can help her in this matter.
Nimishapriya's message came yesterday informing that the prison authorities have been notified to carry out the death penalty. Her message said the jail authorities had got a call from a lawyer. Action Council Convener Jayan Edappal got an audio message. Nimishapriya Action Council member Samuel also said that the courts in Yemen are on holiday and it is not possible to confirm whether Nimishapriya's message was true.
Meantime, the Indian Embassy has confirmed that the message received by Nimishapriya is fake. In 2017, the trial court sentenced Nimishapriya to death in the murder case of Yemeni citizen Talal Abdu Mahdi. The only way to save Nimishapriya is to give blood money to Talal's family. Nimishapriya's mother Prema Kumari had gone to Yemen to meet Talal's family in person and apologize. Negotiations were held with Talal's family and the heads of the tribe. However, these negotiations failed. Nimishapriya is the wife of Tommy Thomas of Thodupuzha. Nimishapriya claimed that Talal Abdu Mahdi, who approached her and promised to help her start her own clinic while she was working as a nurse, confiscated her passport and had brutally harassed her.
