KOCHI: Writer Benyamin has responded to the controversies related to the movie Empuraan. He congratulated Empuraan's director, Prithviraj, and screenwriter Murali Gopi. He wrote that in this day and age, where we discuss how far fascism has spread, this film acts as a measuring indicator to evaluate that.

'Even when the experiences of Perumal Murugan, S. Harish and Deepika Padukone appear before us, I cannot help but admire the mind which included scenes that clearly indicate who is being targeted. Even if such scenes are cut out owing to the interest of the producers, they will still linger in the environment. Those who are eager to attack this film are disturbed by the fact that this film has reminded them of incidents from that past which they think people have forgotten.

Art has a mission, which sometimes makes some people worry, hurt and angry. To please everyone is not the mission. All casteists are the same when their bottoms get heated up. Brave works are not written taking their consent. Such writing should arise from one's own convictions and discernment. Then, regardless of whose support you have or not, you can stand tall. Congratulations to Murali Gopi and Prithviraj for showing the strength to stand tall.' Benyamin wrote.
