KANNUR: KK Ragesh was appointed CPM's new Kannur District Secretary as the post fell vacant after MV Jayarajan's entry into the CPM State Secretariat. The decision was taken at a district committee meeting held in the presence of CPM State Secretary MV Govindan and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
KK Ragesh, who is also the Chief Minister's private secretary, was the most likely candidate for the secretary post. Ragesh earned praise for his tenure as a Rajya Sabha member, where he vociferously demanded that the central government repeal the farmers' law. He was one of the few leaders who spearheaded the massive protest for farmers in Shambhu, Punjab.
Ragesh, the close confidante of CM Pinarayi Vijayan, is the only Malayali to have served as the All India Secretary and President of SFI. Son of C Sreedharan and KK Yashoda, a farmer couple from Kannur, Ragesh is a CPM state committee member. He holds a postgraduate degree in English literature and a law degree. The 55-year-old rose to the state and all-India leadership after serving as the district president and secretary of SFI.
