MUMBAI: Congress Working Committee member Ramesh Chennithala was taken into custody by Mumbai Police during a protest against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Mumbai. Along with Chennithala, other Congress leaders, including the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president, were also detained. The leaders were taken into custody as they left the PCC office to join the ED office march. Police had already announced that such protests would not be allowed. After being detained, all the leaders were taken to Dadar police station and later released. Chennithala then returned to Tilak Bhavan.

Protests are happening across the country against the ED’s actions in the National Herald case. The protest in Mumbai was held near the PCC office and was led by Chennithala. The Congress party says the ED’s actions are politically motivated and target Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. The ED has filed a chargesheet against Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, accusing them of laundering Rs 988 crore. The chargesheet was filed on April 9 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Chennithala said the Congress will continue its protest, and a meeting of party office-bearers will be held in Delhi on April 19.
