KOCHI: A police team will head to Jharkhand to bring back the parents of Nidhi, the newborn left abandoned at Kochi hospital. The move came after Nidhi's father, Mangaleswar, met the child on a video call the other day. Kerala Kaumudi had earlier reported on the reasons that forced the parents to abandon their newborn.

A team led by North SI P.P. Reji, who spoke to the Jharkhand police at the Police Badminton Championship, had arranged for the parents to meet their daughter via video call on Wednesday. The parents saw the newborn for a total of five minutes on the video call. The child is now under the care of the CWC at the shelter home in Angamaly.

The police asked Mangaleswar to come to Kerala to meet the child in person. He then cited the financial difficulty in obtaining a train ticket, which the police said they would take full care of. Despite this offer, the parents are not fully agreeing with the move. The police have concluded that the reluctance may be due to fear police registering a case. The police have decided to wait for two more days and then leave for Jharkhand. A five-member team, including women police officers, will leave under the leadership of SI P.P. Reji.

Police said the date has not been decided and that final discussions are underway. CWC Chairman Vincent Joseph said that Nidhi is in perfect health at the shelter home.
