KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has quashed this year’s Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical (KEAM) exam results. The court's action pointed that changing the weightage after the prospectus of the exam was released as illegal. The verdict was issued on the plea alleging that the ranking method of the engineering entrance exam was adversely affecting the students of the CBSE syllabus. The KEAM exam results were released last week. The verdict, which dealt a heavy blow to the government, came just as the admission process was about to begin.

The plea also questioned the changes made in the prospectus of KEAM. It was also pointed in the plea that the consolidation of marks was done after the examination, contrary to what was stated in the prospectus. The court quashed the result taking all this into account.

The cabinet meeting had decided to implement the consolidation of marks on the Tamil Nadu model so that students who studied in the state syllabus would not lose marks. The rank was published accordingly. The results were released after the cabinet approved the recommendation given by the expert committee on the consolidation of marks.

In the event of the cancellation of the result, a new rank list based on the old weightage will have to be released. KEAM results were released very late as no decision was taken on the consolidation of marks.

It is learnt that the government may appeal against the High Court verdict. Therefore, there is a possibility that the preparation of the new rank list and admission will be delayed for a long time.
