OTTAWA: An Indian student was killed in Canada in a shooting while waiting for a bus. The victim was 21-year-old Harsimrat Randhawa. The girl was immediately taken to the hospital, but her life could not be saved, Hamilton police said. The incident occurred near Upper James Street and South Bend Road around 7:30 pm local time on Wednesday.
The police have concluded that Harsimrat was accidentally shot in the exchange of fire between the groups that arrived in two vehicles. It is reported that the shooter was a passenger in a black Mercedes SUV who opened fire at a white sedan. A stray bullet hit Harsimrat in the chest. With this, the attackers fled the scene. The police stated that efforts are underway to find them.
"We are constantly talking to the girl's family. We are assuring them of all help. Our thoughts and prayers are with the grieving family at this difficult time. The accused will be arrested soon," the police added.
This is not the first incident of Indian nationals being killed in Canada under mysterious circumstances. On April 11, a Malayali youth was found dead inside a car in Canada. The deceased has been identified as Finto Antony (39), a native of Neeleswaram, Malayattoor. Finto had been missing since the 5th of this month. His vehicle, which was equipped with a GPS system, was also missing. Finto Antony had been working in Canada for 12 years. It was the Canadian police who reported Finto Anthony missing. His body was found after a days-long investigation.
