NEW DELHI: With India certain to retaliate against Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, the United Nations (UN) and various countries are making efforts to reach an agreement. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who spoke to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on the phone, strongly condemned the Pahalgam terror attack. Guterres expressed concern over the escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan, stressing the need to ensure justice through legal means.

The UN Secretary-General also spoke about avoiding confrontations that could cause disaster. He also stated that the UN is ready to intervene to defuse the tension. However, Jaishankar informed Guterres that India is determined to bring those behind the attack to justice. Jaishankar thanked Guterres for condemning the Pahalgam terror attack.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has been repeatedly demanding the UN's intervention in the matter. Pakistan's Information Minister Attaullah Tarar alleged in a press conference held at 2 am yesterday that India is preparing to retaliate and that Pakistan will be attacked within the next 36 hours. With this, Pakistan is in deep fear.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says that an impartial investigation into the Pahalgam attack is needed and other countries should intervene. The US responded by saying that it is in touch with India and Pakistan and is appealing to both countries to avoid conflict. China also reiterated that both countries should exercise restraint.
