KOZHIKODE: The initial postmortem report of the three people who died in the Kozhikode Medical College accident indicates that they did not die due to smoke inhalation. The initial postmortem report of West Hill native Gopalan, Meppayyur native Gangadharan, and Vadakara native Surendran has been released. The accident occurred last night. Smoke was coming from the UPS room inside the building where the emergency department operates. The collector had stated that the initial conclusion was that there was a short circuit in the UPS room. More than 200 patients were shifted from Kozhikode Medical College to other government and private hospitals yesterday alone. Health Minister Veena George had announced that an expert medical team would be appointed to investigate the incident. Veena George did not provide further details about the treatment cost of the 37 patients shifted to private hospitals after the accident.
"The initial report is that the cause of the accident was a short circuit. Instructions have been given to complete the forensic examination and technical examination as soon as possible. The patients were tried to be shifted to a safe place as soon as a little smoke appeared. The police are also conducting a thorough investigation. The Collector and the MLA were in the hospital at the time of the incident. Rescue operations were carried out in coordination with everyone. Doctors are checking the health condition of the patients. No one will be denied treatment. There will be an intervention for this. 37 patients are being treated in another hospital. An expert team of doctors from another medical college will come for further investigation," the minister said.
