Former Mumbai Indians cricketer arrested on rape charges

JAIPUR: Former Mumbai Indians cricketer Sivalik Sharma was arrested in the case of sexually abusing a woman. He was arrested by the Rajasthan police. The accused produced in the court has been sent to judicial custody. The woman in her complaint said that he forced her to engage in physical relations under the pretext of marriage. The two met in Vadodara two years ago. Their relationship grew after that.

The woman in her complaint said they decided to get married after falling in love and the two families then met each other. The two got engaged in 2023. The woman revealed that Shivalik repeatedly forced her for a physical relationship and that she had gone with him as they were engaged. Later, he backed out of the relationship and following this, she filed the complaint.

Shivalik, a batsman and all-rounder, made his domestic cricket debut in 2018. He has so far scored 1087 runs in 18 first-class matches. He has played in 19 T20 matches and 13 ODI matches. He also played well for Baroda in the last Ranji Trophy.

Shivalik was picked by the Mumbai Indians at the IPL auction ahead of the 2023 auction for a base price of Rs 20 lakhs. Although he made it to the team, he was not able to play a single match. He was released ahead of the mega auction last November.
