Xabi Alonso confirms Leverkusen exit, Santiago Bernabéu awaits

MADRID: Former Real Madrid player Xabi Alonso is likely to take over as coach of Spanish club Real Madrid. Real Madrid crashed out of the Champions League semi-finals and lost to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final. They are second in La Liga behind rivals Barcelona.

Veteran coach Carlo Ancelotti is set to relinquish his role at Real at the end of the season. Ancelotti has expressed his desire to become the coach of the Brazil national team.

As per reports, Xabi Alonso, after confirming his departure from German club Bayer Leverkusen by the end of this season has agreed to helm the big job for the Galatickos.

Former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern legend Xabi Alonso left many in disbelief after guiding a mediocre Bayern Leverkusen team to the Bundesliga title in his debut season as a manager in 2024. Since then, Xabi has been regarded as the hot property in the football world. Last summer, Liverpool tried to talk terms with him but the Spaniard decided to stay in Germany.
