Explosion at Kozhikode Medical College : Five-member committee to submit preliminary report on Monday

KOZHIKODE: The first phase of the investigation by the five-member committee appointed to investigate the explosion in the emergency department of the Govt. Medical College Hospital has been completed. The preliminary report is expected to be submitted to the Health Minister on Monday.

A team led by Kottayam Medical College Hospital Superintendent Dr TK Jayakumar had visited the hospital in the past few days. They collected information from Principal Dr KG Sajeeth Kumar, Superintendent MP Sreejayan, and those who were in the hospital at the time of the accident. The committee examined whether the patients suffered any problems following the explosion. The emergency department rooms in the building where the incident occurred were also examined. The results of the internal organs of those who died in the accident are yet to be received from the chemical examination lab. After receiving this, it will be examined by an expert committee. The other members of the committee are Dr Radhika-Superintendent of Thrissur Medical College Hospital, Dr Ravi-Head of the Surgery Department, Dr Murali-Pulmonologist of Ernakulam Medical College, and Dr Ranju-Head of the Forensic Department of Kollam Medical College.
The inspection of the PWD Electrical Department, Electrical Inspectorate, Forensic etc. has been completed. Electrical Inspectorate Deputy Inspector Riju Deepak said that the report will be submitted to the Collector soon. The police investigation is progressing.
