DUBAI: Dubai International Airport, the world's busiest international hub and the most visited airport by Malayali expatriates is on the verge of shutting down. The official announcement has been made that the airport (DXB) operating in the heart of Dubai will be closed. DXB will shut operations completely when the touted Al Maktoum International Airport becomes a reality by 2032.
The authorities are planning to repurpose the airport's land for residential, commercial, and advertising purposes. Experts in the field say that data analytics should be prepared keeping in mind the changing needs of the city, population rate, and traffic.
During discussions at the Arabian Ranches Market last week, DXB CEO Paul Griffiths also highlighted the importance of the development plan, which focuses on the potential for development that combines residential, commercial, hospitality and public spaces. At the same time, it is recommended that DXB's historical contribution to Dubai's development not be forgotten and that the airport's architectural features be preserved.
