KOZHIKODE: The Kerala Private Unaided Schools Management Association has demanded that the opening of schools be extended by another week as heavy rains continue in Kerala. The situation is dangerous due to the filling of ponds and springs. Repairs and other works ahead of the opening of schools have been stalled for a week due to the rains. The association's secretary and president demanded that the education department take this situation at face value and postpone the opening of schools.
There are hundreds of schools in Kerala that have applied for government approval. The education department is playing around without approving such institutions in the name of 'government policy'. The minister's finding that it is the schools that determine the educational qualifications, fees and syllabus of teachers is not factual. Institutions that operate in accordance with the rules should be allowed to operate. The office bearers also said that a concerted protest will be organized against the government's decision.
