MOSCOW: Ukraine carried out a massive drone attack targeting Russian air bases on Sunday. This is one of the largest drone attacks ever carried out by Ukraine against Russia since the start of the war in February 2022. Ukraine reportedly carried out a heavy attack on the Olenya and Belaya air bases. Ukraine claims to have attacked about forty Russian aircraft.

The drone strikes come after Russia launched a missile strike on a military training centre in Ukraine on Sunday, killing 12 people and wounding about 60. The Belaya and Olenya air bases are located in the Irkutsk region of Siberia, more than 4,000 kilometres from Ukraine.

The attack was confirmed by the governor of Irkutsk. This is the first time Ukraine has attacked Siberia. The governor said that a Ukrainian remote-controlled aircraft attacked a military unit in the village of Sredny. Video footage of the attack has been released.
