THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Affan, the accused in the Venjaramoodu massacre case, who is undergoing treatment after attempting suicide, has been shifted to the ICU from ventilator. Although he is talking to doctors, Affan said that he cannot remember the day he attempted suicide and the days before.

If his health improves, the doctors will recommend to subject him to mental health examination. It is reported that Affan's brain and internal organs are not seriously injured.

Affan was remanded in Poojappura Central Jail in the case of killing five including his brother and girlfriend. He attempted suicide in the jail at around 11 am on May 25. He attempted suicide using a mundu in the washroom.

He was kept in a cell in the high-security UT block. When he was taken out to watch TV, he said that he wants to go to the washroom. He then took a mundu hung on the rope, entered the washroom and hung. The warden, who heard a noise, saw him hanging. He had lost consciousness as the noose got tightened around his neck. He was in a very serious condition and was admitted to the medical college and was on ventilator.

There were reports at that time that the chances of Affan’s recovery were very low and that even if he survives, he would be in coma for the rest of his life. Affan committed the crime on February 24.
