BENGALURU: Police have registered a case in connection with the stampede that killed 11 people during RCB's IPL victory celebration. The Bengaluru police have registered a case against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Karnataka State Cricket Association and event management group DNA. The Cubbon Park police have charged the team with culpable homicide. The RCB management had not accepted the conditions put forward by the police regarding the victory celebration.
Fans took to the streets in Bengaluru after RCB's victory in the final. The police had asked the management to postpone the victory celebration to next Sunday, but they did not accept it. The police had told the RCB management that there was a possibility of more crowds and that the fans' zeal would decrease by Sunday and that they would be able to control the crowds then.
The police said that it was difficult to control the fans who came out on the streets in the early hours of Tuesday morning on the day of the final. They had informed the government that the officers were tired. Police sources said that the police had informed the government that there was no time for elaborate security arrangements. The government, RCB and the Karnataka Cricket Association were informed about this. However, RCB's response was that the foreign players in the team wanted to return immediately.
However, despite such a huge tragedy in Bengaluru and the death of 11 of their fans and the serious condition of many others, the RCB players continued their celebrations at the stadium. There is widespread criticism against this. Players including Virat Kohli addressed the fans at the stadium and spoke. RCB's official social media platforms are sharing footage of the celebration continuing even after the accident.
