Tiger and dog spend 10 hours in same pit

KATTAPPANA: In a rare and astonishing incident, a tiger and a dog remained confined together for over 10 hours in a 15-foot-deep pit without any aggression between them. The tiger, reportedly chasing the dog, fell into the pit located on the cardamom plantation of a man named Sunny in Kadukka City, Mailadumpara, near Kattappana. Remarkably, the dog also ended up in the pit.

The incident came to light around 5:30 a.m. when locals heard the dog's persistent barking. The landowner promptly secured the pit by covering it with an iron grate and netting and awaited the arrival of forest officials.

By the afternoon, the forest department tranquillised the tiger and safely retrieved it using a net. The dog was also sedated before being brought out. Officials suspect the dog may have bitten the tiger, so the big cat will be given an anti-rabies vaccination before its release. The location is close to the Kerala-Tamil Nadu forest border at Anakkara, Chellarkovilmedu.

Man rescued after bleeding incident atop coconut tree

KOZHIKODE: A 65-year-old man narrowly escaped a potentially fatal situation after injuring himself atop a coconut tree in Chathamangalam. Gokulan Nair had climbed the tree to tie a cable and accidentally cut his hand while trimming leaves, leading to heavy bleeding and rendering him unable to descend.

Responding swiftly, a team from the Mukkam Fire Force, led by Assistant Station Officer Pius Augustine, carried out a dramatic rescue operation. Using a rope-tied basket, they climbed the 50-foot tree, secured Gokulan, and lowered him safely to the ground. The incident occurred on the property of Sreekanth at Ayodhya, Nechuli.

Youth survives fall into waterfall

NEDUMKANDAM: A young tourist had a narrow escape after slipping into a notorious waterfall while attempting to take a selfie. The man, part of a four-member group from Madurai, Tamil Nadu, was at the edge of a rock when he lost balance and fell into the waters below.

Clinging to a rock for nearly 30 minutes, the youth struggled for survival until local bystanders at the tourist spot intervened. They threw him a rope, which he managed to secure around himself, allowing them to pull him to safety. The rock formation where the accident occurred has claimed 12 lives over the past decade. The incident took place around 3:15 p.m. on Saturday.
