AHMEDABAD: An Air India flight carrying over 242 passengers bound to London crashed shortly after takeoff at Ahmedabad in Gujarat. The flight crashed in a residential area at Meghani Nagar in Gujarat near Sardar Vallabhai Patel Airport in Ahmedabad.
The Air India flight A1171 took off for London at 1.10 pm. Seven fire brigade units have reached the area and are trying to douse the flames. The visuals of the flight engulfed in flames and black smoke bellowing has surfaced. Since it was taking off, there was a lot of fuel on board. It is believed that this may have caused a major explosion.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel, state home minister Harsh Sanghavi and the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner over the incident. He assured that the centre will provide all necessary assistance to the state in managing the aftermath and investigation of the crash.

The extent of the disaster is beyond expectation as the accident occurred in a residential area. Locals and fire brigade personnel have reached the spot and rescue operations are ongoing. Black smoke is bellowing in the area. Following the incident, Union Minister Amit Shah spoke to Gujarat Chief Minister. Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu will leave for Ahmedabad soon. The Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, which took off at 1.14 pm, crashed soon after takeoff. The injured are being shifted to the hospital.
