AHMEDABAD: Former Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP leader Vijay Rupani is suspected to have been on the Air India plane that crashed in Ahmedabad. The government has not yet confirmed this. 69-year-old Rupani succeeded Anandiben Patel as the chief minister of Gujarat from 2016 to 2021.

Since the accident occurred in a residential area, the extent of the disaster is beyond expectations. Locals and fire brigade personnel have reached the spot and rescue operations are underway. Black smoke is bellowing in the area. Following the incident, Union Minister Amit Shah spoke to the Gujarat Chief Minister over the phone. Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu will leave for Ahmedabad soon.
